i40x has a new look, a new logo and one page for every tool

What changed, why, and where to find everything now.

i40x started as a handful of PDF and text tools. It is now more than seventy of them, in English and Arabic, and the old layout was getting in the way. This week we replaced it. Here is what is different and what stayed exactly the same.

What is new

  • A new logo. A lowercase “a” and “o”, the initials behind i40x, with the stem of the “a” drawn as a text cursor: a nod to tools that you type into. It is also the favicon, and it follows light and dark mode.
  • One page for every tool. Each tool has its own address with a short how-to, answers to the questions people actually ask, and a note on whether your file stays in your browser or goes to our server.
  • Search that is always one key away. Press Ctrl + K (or ⌘ + K on a Mac) anywhere on the site and type what you want to do, for example “compress pdf” or “qr”.
  • Light and dark themes. The site follows your device, and you can switch it from the header.
  • Arabic as a first-class language. Every page has an Arabic version with a proper right-to-left layout, not just translated labels.
  • Continue with. After a PDF or image tool finishes, you can send the result straight into another tool, for example compress a merged PDF without downloading and re-uploading it.

What did not change

The tools are still free, there is no watermark, and you do not need an account to use them. Tools that work on text, numbers, colours and images run entirely in your browser, so what you type or drop in never leaves your device. The few tools that need a server, such as PDF and Office conversion, say so on their page and delete files automatically.

Why we did it

The old layout hid tools behind menus and gave every page a different shape. The new one has one structure: a tool at the top, and below it what it does, how to use it and what to watch out for. That also makes the site easier to use with a keyboard or a screen reader, and quicker on a slow phone.
