About Hijri Date Converter

This Hijri date converter turns a Gregorian date into the Islamic Hijri date and back. Pick a date and you see the weekday, the Hijri day, month name and year. Or enter a Hijri year, month and day to get the matching Gregorian date. The result is also shown in numeric form, such as 15/9/1447, which is handy for forms.

It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, through your browser's built-in date support, so a modern browser is needed. The Hijri year field accepts 1300 to 1600 and days 1 to 30. Some countries start months by local moon sighting, so a date can differ by a day. Do not rely on it for religious observances.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Gregorian date to Hijri?

Pick the date in the Gregorian date field. The Hijri date appears below with the weekday, month name and year, plus a short day/month/year version. It updates immediately when you change the date.

How do I convert a Hijri date to Gregorian?

Enter the Hijri year, choose the month and type the day. The matching Gregorian date appears with the weekday and in year-month-day format. If the date does not exist, such as day 30 of a 29-day month, you get a message.

Which Hijri calendar does this converter use?

It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, the civil calendar of Saudi Arabia, calculated by your browser's internationalisation support. Month lengths are 29 or 30 days according to that calendar's tables, not a simple fixed formula.

Why can the date differ by a day from another source?

Some countries start the month by local moon sighting rather than the Umm al-Qura calendar, so their dates can be a day earlier or later. This tool does not follow sighting announcements, so check religious dates with your local authority.

What years does the converter cover?

The Hijri year field accepts 1300 to 1600 AH, and the day field accepts 1 to 30. Dates outside what your browser's calendar data supports will not convert. A very old browser may not support the calendar at all.

Can I use it to decide the start of Ramadan or Eid?

No. It gives calendar dates only. The start of Ramadan, Eid and other occasions is announced by the competent religious authority in each country, and this tool does not replace that.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using its own calendar data, so the dates you enter are not uploaded. The page also shows month names in Arabic when you use the Arabic version.
