About Text Diff Checker

This text diff checker compares two versions of a text and shows what changed. Paste the original on the left and the changed text on the right, click Compare, and every line is listed as unchanged, added (+) or removed (−), with a summary of how many lines were added and removed. If nothing differs it tells you the texts are identical.

The comparison works line by line, using the longest common sequence of lines. A line that was edited therefore appears as one removed line plus one added line, and the comparison is case-sensitive and sensitive to spaces, so a stray trailing space counts as a change. Very large texts may be refused as too large to compare. Your text stays in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare two texts online?

Paste the original text in the left box and the changed version in the right box, then click Compare. The result lists each line, marking added lines with plus and removed lines with minus.

Does it compare words or whole lines?

It compares whole lines. If you change one word in a line, that line shows as removed in its old form and added in its new form. For fine comparisons, put one sentence on each line.

Why does a line show as changed when it looks the same?

The comparison is exact. A trailing space, a different type of quotation mark or a different letter case makes lines unequal. Check for invisible spaces at the end of lines if two lines look identical.

Is the comparison case-sensitive?

Yes. Hello and hello are treated as different lines, and there is no option to ignore case or whitespace. To compare ignoring case, convert both texts to lowercase first with the Case Converter.

Does it work with Arabic or right-to-left text?

Yes. Lines are compared character by character for any language, and the results area adapts to the text direction. Arabic and mixed Arabic and English lines are supported.

Is there a size limit, and are my texts uploaded?

Nothing is uploaded; the comparison runs in your browser. Very large texts, where the number of lines multiplied together is very high, show a message that they are too large to compare.
