About Word Counter
This word counter counts the words, characters, characters without spaces, sentences and paragraphs in any text you type or paste, and updates the numbers as you edit. It also shows an estimated reading time and a short list of the most repeated keywords, which is handy for essays, articles and social posts. It is a quick way to check length requirements before you submit or publish.
Words are recognised for any alphabet, including Arabic, Cyrillic and accented Latin letters, and sentence ends include the Arabic question mark. Reading time assumes about 225 words per minute, so treat it as an estimate. The keyword list only shows words of four or more letters and skips common English filler words. Your text stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
How do I count words in a text online?
Paste or type your text into the box and the counts appear immediately. You do not need to press a button. Words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and reading time all update as you edit or delete text.
Does the word counter work with Arabic text?
Yes. Words are counted for any alphabet, including Arabic, and the sentence counter treats the Arabic question mark as a sentence end. Arabic and English can be mixed in the same text.
How is reading time calculated?
The tool divides the word count by 225 words per minute, an average adult reading speed, and rounds to the nearest minute. Below one minute it shows less than 1 min. Real reading speed varies by reader and topic.
What is the difference between characters and characters without spaces?
Characters counts everything including spaces, tabs and line breaks. No spaces removes all whitespace first. Use the first for limits like tweets and the second when a form says letters only.
How are the top keywords chosen?
The tool counts how often each word appears, ignoring case, and lists up to eight. It only includes words of four or more letters and skips a built-in list of common English words such as the and with.
Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The counting runs entirely in your browser, so your text is not sent to our server. There is no sign-up and no limit on how much text you can check.
