About Favicon Generator

The favicon generator creates the small icon that appears in browser tabs, bookmarks and home screens. Start from a logo image or from one to three letters or an emoji, then choose the background color, the shape (rounded square, square or circle), a transparent background and the padding. A live preview shows the icon at 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels.

The ZIP contains favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions, favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png, two Android icons (192 and 512 pixels) and a site.webmanifest file. A ready-made HTML snippet for your head section is shown. Upload the files to your site root. Everything runs in your browser, so your logo is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What files are in the favicon package?

favicon.ico containing 16, 32 and 48 pixel icons, PNG icons at 16 and 32 pixels, an Apple touch icon at 180 pixels, Android icons at 192 and 512 pixels, and a site.webmanifest file.

What image should I upload to make a favicon?

Use a simple, square logo, ideally at least 512 by 512 pixels, with a solid or transparent background. Fine detail disappears at 16 pixels, so bold shapes and few colors work best.

How do I add the favicon to my website?

Upload all the files to the root of your site, then paste the HTML snippet shown by the tool into the head section of your pages. Browsers may take a while to refresh a cached favicon.

Can I make a favicon from text or an emoji?

Yes. Switch to text or emoji and type up to three characters, then pick the text and background colors, shape and padding. The icon is drawn with a bold system font, including Arabic letters.

Can the favicon have a transparent background?

Yes. Tick the transparent background option to remove the background color. The shape setting still applies to the clipping, and the PNG and ICO files keep the transparency.

Is my logo uploaded to a server?

No. The icons are drawn and packed into the ZIP in your browser, and your logo never leaves your device. The manifest has empty name fields that you should fill in yourself.
