Open and convert HEIC photos on Windows

Windows cannot open your iPhone HEIC photos? Convert them to JPG in your browser: no install, no upload, no watermark.

About Open and convert HEIC photos on Windows

Photos copied from an iPhone often arrive on a Windows PC as HEIC files that Photos, Paint or an old copy of Office will not display. Microsoft offers an add-on codec for this, but on a work computer, or when you are only doing it once, installing software is more trouble than it is worth.

The converter below does the work in the browser tab. Drop the HEIC files from your folder, keep JPG selected, and download the results. Up to 40 photos can be converted in one go and saved as a ZIP.

Nothing is uploaded, so family photos and documents never leave your PC. The new files also drop the location data of the originals.

Frequently asked questions

Why can Windows not open HEIC?

HEIC is a newer photo format that Windows only reads after an extra codec is added. Without it, programs show an error or a blank thumbnail, even though the photo is fine.

Do I have to install anything?

No. The decoder is downloaded by the page the first time you convert, about 3 MB, and runs inside the browser. You can use it on a locked-down work PC.

Will the JPG look worse than the HEIC?

At the default quality the difference is not visible in normal use. The JPG file is usually larger than the HEIC, because HEIC is more efficient.

Can I convert a whole folder?

You can add up to 40 photos at once. For a bigger folder, convert it in batches of 40 and download each batch as a ZIP.
