About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF removes the password from a protected file so you no longer have to type it each time you open the document. Upload the PDF, enter its current password and download an unlocked copy, named after yours with -unlocked added. The tool works with files protected by a password that opens the document. It takes only a few seconds.
This tool does not crack or guess passwords: you must know the current password, and a wrong one returns an error. Use it only on files you own or are allowed to modify. After unlocking, the file can be merged, split or compressed with our other PDF tools. Files are processed on our server and deleted automatically after 30 minutes.

Can you unlock a PDF if I forgot the password?
No. You need the correct current password. The tool removes protection from files you can already open, and it does not guess or break passwords.
Why does it say wrong password?
Passwords are case-sensitive, so check capital letters and extra spaces. A PDF can also have restrictions that the tool cannot lift without the correct password, in which case it reports the error.
Is it legal to unlock a PDF?
Unlocking is meant for files you own or are authorised to change. Do not use it to bypass protection on documents you are not entitled to access. You are responsible for how you use it.
Does unlocking change my document?
Only the password and encryption are removed. Text, images and layout stay the same, and the original file you uploaded is left untouched. The original stays untouched.
Do you store my password or file?
The password is used for this one job and is not stored. Uploaded files and results are deleted automatically after 30 minutes. Guests can upload up to 10 MB; free members up to 50 MB.
